Niclas Eliasson Released by San Jose

Forward Joins Detroit Red Wings

Traded by Sharks After Six Seasons

Niclas Eliasson has been traded to the Detroit Red Wings by the San Jose Sharks. The move comes after six seasons with the Sharks, where Eliasson recorded 108 points (37 goals, 71 assists) in 327 games.

Eliasson was drafted by the Sharks in the second round (59th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2017 and quickly became a regular contributor for the Sharks.

In 2020-21, Eliasson set career highs with 14 goals and 25 assists. He also played a key role in the Sharks' run to the Stanley Cup Final, recording seven points (two goals, five assists) in 19 playoff games.

However, Eliasson's production declined last season. He finished with just eight goals and 12 assists, and his ice time decreased significantly.

The Sharks decided to trade Eliasson in order to make room for younger players on their roster. The Red Wings are getting a skilled forward who can provide scoring and playmaking ability.

Eliasson is expected to play a top-six role with the Red Wings. He will be counted on to help the team improve on their disappointing 11th-place finish in the Eastern Conference last season.
