Canada Invests Over 11 Million In Critical Minerals Research In Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan Research Council to Advance Bastnaesite Processing and Study of Critical Minerals with Government Support

New Funding to Advance Saskatchewan's Mining Sector

Regina, Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) has received over C$16 million in funding from the Government of Canada to advance bastnaesite processing and the study of critical minerals. The funding was announced by Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson.

Bastnaesite is a rare earth mineral that is essential for the production of high-tech products such as smartphones, electric vehicles, and renewable energy technologies. Saskatchewan is home to some of the world's largest bastnaesite deposits, and this funding will allow the SRC to develop new and innovative ways to process and extract these critical minerals.

The funding will also support research into other critical minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. These minerals are essential for the clean energy transition, and Saskatchewan has the potential to become a major supplier of these materials.

This investment is a significant step forward for Saskatchewan's mining sector," said Wilkinson. "It will help us to develop new technologies and create jobs in this important industry.
