Verstappen Recovers From Wet Start to Secure Victory

WEB Red Bulls Max Verstappen has won Saturdays Belgian Grand Prix sprint event ahead of Sundays 13th round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship. The two-time world champion will collect eight points to add to his title challenge after edging out Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz in a dramatic Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Shootout.

Verstappen started second on the grid but lost the lead to Piastri on the opening lap in wet conditions. However, the Dutchman fought back to retake the lead and eventually win the race, despite a late safety car period.

Verstappen's victory extends his winning streak to eight races, and he now leads the drivers' standings by 93 points ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Piastri's second place finish was his best result of the season, while Sainz's third place gave Ferrari their first podium finish since the Austrian Grand Prix.
